The wine also ages exceptionally well, with its colour changing slightly to give the typical hue of an aged Riesling. In search of the shape that would best match this new style, Stuart Pigott, a British wine journalist specialising in Riesling, put together a tasting of the finest 1990 vintages from Germany, France and Austria. Riedel sent a selection of glasses for evaluation, suspecting - correctly - that their Chianti Classico (Item No. 400/15) glass might prove ideal. This tasting was subsequently...

Vineyards: The 2008 Poet's Leap Riesling is a blend of several distinct Columbia Valley growing regions, each contributing unique characteristics to the wine. From the Horse Heaven Hills,Armin selects fruit from an assortment of Wallula Vineyard blocks, including a biodynamically-farmed section of the vineyard. Grapes from Long Shadows' own "Sonnet" Vineyard, planted with German clones as specified by Armin, impart minerality, a vibrant mouthfeel and a hint of sweetness. Old vine Riesling, planted...

This was produced by legendary German winemaker Egon Muller from Adelaide Hills grapes. When it was released a few months ago, it tasted a bit lean and boring. But now it has had time to settle, it's absolutely terrific: multi-layered flavours of apple and lime and lingering chalky dryness. (Max Allen - The Weekend Australian - 21/10/06)

Region: Wairau Valley, N.Z Tasting Note: Made in the German Kabinett style, with only 8.5% alcohol, 36g/l residual sugar and balanced by a low pH ' 2.94 and high natural acidity 8.4g/l. A truly delightful wine for any time of day, perhaps most ideal at lunchtime. I love the poise and balance of this wine ' lemon blossoms, golden delicious apple, and a touch of sweetness balanced by fine acidity. Heathcote Riesling eh. I wasn't expecting much but was very pleasantly surprised. Spicy and floral with sweet apple and lemon fruit. On the palate bright and juicy with spicy apple, citrus and stonefruit flavours. A bit minerally too. Not the tightest line and drive through the mouth but it is very fresh and refreshing with a good long finish. A sort of a super-charged German style perhaps. Really nice wine making [and] an interesting change of diet for the Riesling enthusiast. Rated: 91 points

Grown in the Nahe region of Germany, HOOKED Riesling shows a classic Nahe profile, it is very racy and sleek. There are notes of mineral, green apple and pear in the nose. On the palate the wine has superb balance, with notes of pear and white peach fruit. HOOKED Riesling's refreshing acidity will leave you wondering which of your favorite dishes you will pair it with!

Delightful, floral, spicy aroma. Germanic almost but with a rose petal perfume and a light lilting note of honeysuckle. None of the kerosene like characteristics of German wines with great balance. Wonderful balance of residual sugar with acidity. Superb acid. This really is a wonderful food wine, a great sipping wine and what better wine for crab salad with papaya! This wine scored much better with the food.

The bowl of these wine glasses is designed to accentuate the best attributes of Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling wines.. From Riedels new Grape collection, they ensure a perfectly balanced tasting experience. The defining characteristic of these machine-made glasses is their elegant pulled stem, which creates an attractive cleft in the bottom of the bowl. The high-quality 24% lead crystal is virtually indistinguishable from handmade crystal. Hand-wash. Made in Germany.

Ive tasted nearly two dozen Kabinett and Spatlese German wines in the past month or so and even recom¬mended a couple in the last issue of this Guide. Saturday before last I finally got around to trying this 07, Lieser Spatlese from Schloss Lieser and its the best of them all. Though there is definite sweetness in this 07, it is nowhere in the range of a dessert wine. Especially when you factor in its excellent refreshing balanced acid level, giving you a fine wine to serve with chicken, pork...

Riesling is the most versatile variety of all and for some people capable of producing wines of at least the same international quality standard as Pinot Noir, particularly in the cooler regions of New Zealand. Depending on the quality and structure of the fruit we produce either fully fermented dry wines or sweet, low-alcohol wines, modelled on German Riesling form the Mosel/Saar region. The dry wines are genuinely dry, quite austere and ideal with many seafood entrées. www.frommwineries.com
