For many lovers of big Australian red wines the discussion begins and ends with Wendouree. Truly exceptionally cellar-worthy, these full bodied and gripping red wines are the result of extremely low yields from the very old, unirrigated vines of Shiraz, Malbec, Mataro (Mourvèdre), and Cabernet Sauvignon, many of them growing on untrellised bush-vines. As remarkable as the wines are, even more remarkable are Tony and Lita Brady, who consider themselves the custodians of a priceless treasure: the ...

Colonia las Liebres is the new concept brand created by Altos las Hormigas. This concept has been inspired by the special state of mind that we experiment while working in our vineyards. We were born ten thousand miles from here, and we arrived guided by an inspiration, or by pure chance. Passion got us into wine, and love binds us to this place of election, a place that we have chosen.

This powerful, firmly structured malbec is black/fuchsia in color and perfumed with wild raspberry and bittersweet cocoa. The palate unfolds in velvety layers of plum, currant and anise. Notes of white pepper and minerals accompany fine-grained tannins on a long, memorable finish. Alcohol 14.8%

Dark crimson in colour....leads to a bouquet which is dominated by black plum, Christmas cake, spice and blackberry. The palate is classic Malbec with characteristics with a sweet core of black fruits and spice, finishing with soft French oak and fine long tannin.

Palate - A gutsy wine with rich dark fruit, dusty oak and firm tannins

Cedar, spice, medicinal, blackberry on the nose. Lovely blackberry flavours on the palate. Quite an elegant, tight, furry, tannic wine. Maybe just lacks a bit of concentration on the finish. The oxtail seemed to make the wine a little lighter in concentration but I liked the flavours. They married well with the meat.

Hailing from the family's Madras vineyard at approximately 1000 metres above sea level, this wine shows intense depth of dark berry fruit which intermingles with dark chocolate and bramble and mineral nuances. The palate shows inky strong fruit which is kept in check by fresh and fine tannins. It's a rich and racy wine that would be the perfect grilled meats accompaniment. PWS

This is a wonderful wine for the price. Being Argentinian, meat , particularly beef, is the usual accompaniment to Malbec. Los Haroldos Malbec cleanses the palate while stirring the hunger buds. It seems to elegantly reconcile qualities such as depth of flavour and lightness of mouth feel, richness and clarity, beautiful colour and fluent viscosity. Beef simply tastes better. This Malbec has the quality of enticing another glass from the bottle. I started with three bottles, then bought six, and...

The Cullens are delighted at the success of this wine, which represents a unique blend of three of the Bordeaux grape varieties. The precise contributions made by Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot are varied each vintage to take into account the quality and cropping levels of each variety. The blend for the 2003 Mangan comprised 47% of both Malbec and Petit Verdot and 6% of Merlot.

The Langhorne Creek region of Australia treads a hazardous path between baking hot inland winds in summer and cool winters, all with scarce rainfall. This wine is made in an old-fashioned manner now seldom seen. Its vines receive their nutrition and water via annual flooding of the Bremer River which deposits fine alluvial soil, fertilizing the vineyards. Distinctive lots are harvested and vinified separately. The best batches are blended and matured in French and American Oak hogsheads for a year...

When the Vasarellis arrived in Australia in the 1960s, they settled in McLaren Vale, which was perfect for growing high quality grapes and produce for them to continue making the wines and food they had enjoyed so much in their homeland. With them came their enjoyment in Bocce, an ancient and popular European bowls game whereby players throw the larger 'Bocce' balls towards the smaller 'Pallino' ball. This wine imitates Vicki's champion player qualities. Pat and Vicki have utilised their expert skills...

“For everyday drinking, this is fantastic value and we have not had wine as good as this for a long time. It has been wholesaling by the pallet and it is a great success. Great value for money. Complex deep cassis flavours subtle hints of tobacco and mint. You will not buy a better $7 Cabernet Sauvignon from any major national discount retailers. In fact, I know that they sell this wine for more than we do. This wine is Estate bottled with the cork, which give the wine a longer cellar potential in...

Nice fruity entry with currant/spice hints. Well structured at the start of the palate, although it seemed to become more chunky and firm towards the end. In fact this wine was quite undone by the food. That hard finish grew out of all proportion with the food.
