The quality of the 2005 vintage was excellent. The weather was ideal with a long growing season that provided great hang time for the grapes. Winemakers Anthony Riboli and Arnaud Debons work closely with multiple vineyards from various districts within Paso Robles. All vineyard owners are long-term partners in this process. Each vineyard lot is fermented separately to preserve the unique flavors of its terroir.

2006 Vintage was characterized by classical temperate Australian conditions. Good winter rains and warm temperatures in early December encouraged strong vine growth and positive expectations of a healthy crop. The milder January conditions were excellent for slower ripening and a short rain spell in the first week of March freshened up the crop after a hot February, further enhancing the flavours of our Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

'In last year's Quaff, the Kingston Estate Petit Verdot was rated second to our wine of the year...The new release 2008 is in the same league ...It's clearly Bloody Good: wonderful floral aromas with a touch of spice, ripe, rich, concentrated redcurrant and blackberry jube flavours... pleasingly approachable... Peter Forrestal, Quaff 2009.

It had some high toned red fruit on its bouquet. Satisfying red fruit character on the palate with grippy tannins, medium body and medium intensity. The alcohol showed a bit warm on the finish. This was not a charming food match. The acid alcohol and tannin of the wine seemed to fall apart when served with this dish.

It is essential for great wine production that the winemaker and the grapegrower 'connect' to ensure grapes are delivered to the winery at the moment of optimized fruit ripeness. Shaw family ownership of both the vineyards and winery all under a single management structure ensures only wines of exquisite quality and full flavour are produced for global wine markets.

The Cullens are delighted at the success of this wine, which represents a unique blend of three of the Bordeaux grape varieties. The precise contributions made by Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot are varied each vintage to take into account the quality and cropping levels of each variety. The blend for the 2003 Mangan comprised 47% of both Malbec and Petit Verdot and 6% of Merlot.

Good news! My poster has turned up! Thank you so much for your help on this one and the excellent service you provide. I have been really thrilled with your service and as an example I saw the "After the Theatre" picture in a furniture store in an awful frame for $320. I have purchased it from you and will get framed in my choice of frame and only spend $170. How is that for savings! Sincerely Joan

Petit Verdot is losing its popularity in Bordeaux, where it is one of the components that make up the Bordeaux quintet. The reason for its decline is that being a late ripening variety it does not perform well in a cool climate, however, in the warmer climates of McLaren Vale the variety is producing wines of great colour and aroma. The Wayne Thomas Petit Verdot is amongst the countrys best example. The 2003 and 2004 vintages were very impressive, the 2005 even more so and loaded with both grunt and...

Fresh, floral, blueberry, black fruit characters. A degree of polish and smoothness on the texture. Very fine tannins and fresh acidity. Proves to be a reasonable match. The wine becomes increasingly more pure and fruited. The structure works pretty well, cutting through the dish. A good match.

The precise contribution made by the three red grape varieties to the 2002 Mangan represents the result of numerous trial tastings, which were aimed at ensuring that those varieties complemented each other perfectly and that, as a consequence, the wine was in complete harmony. The power supplied by the Malbec is thus supported by the length that is contributed by the Petit Verdot while the merlot adds the requisite tannins.

Initially ripe characters. Aniseed, violets and some interesting floral characters with a bit of raw meat - that sort of blood character of a freshly cut piece of raw steak. A pretty wine. This young floral character tended to stick out a little bit with food, but the whole thing was pretty interesting. Quite attractive, particularly as a not often seen, straight varietal Petit Verdot.

Quite a beguiling nose. Some attractive, brambly, cassis flavours. A supple, round and fleshy wine. Very approachable. Love that juiciness in the mid palate and that raspberry jube flavour that hit you right near the back. With the Osso Bucco dish it was lovely. Even gentler on the finish and the flavours came through even better. This was one of the few wines where the flavours looked better with food. The food seemed to highlight them.

The fruit for this unique blend was picked at Baumés of 13.8 to 14.2° and comprised 60% Malbec and 40% Petit Verdot. The wine was matured in French oak for seven months, of which 27% was new.
