This wine was voted “Best Red Wine in Show’ with their first ever vintage of this blend, and is a superb example of how well these two varieties can work together. Although not made to be a long cellaring proposition, this is drinking very well now - 2012.

Penfolds Thomas Hyland Chardonnay 2008 ( Gold and Trophy,Class 1) Sourced primarily from the Adelaide Hills with components from McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu Peninsula, this collected the trophy for ‘Best Wine Under $20, although it is generally priced a little above that mark in retail outlets. Also known as Muscat of Alexandria or Muscat Gordo Blanco, Lexia is part of the hardy, spicey and versatile Muscat family. Brown Brothers have had a long association with the grape, as there were Muscat of Alexandria cuttings in the first ten-acre vineyard planted by John Francis Brown at Milawa in 1885.

Deep red. Cinnamon and spice with mulberry fruit. A serious Shiraz. Mulberry and rich red plum fruit flavours frame this wine with spicy oak complexity. Lincoln Estate is a maritime vineyard only 10kms from the coast. This climate along with the rich soils full of iron stone give a real complexity and depth to the wine. Drinkable now, however cellaring for 5-6 years will see the wine develop further complexity.

A wet spring and long warm summer ensured large shady canopies and full flavoured luscious plum fruit characters after fermenting.
