The Chenin Blanc vines at Voyager Estate are some of the original Estate vines planted in 1978 and, as a result of their age and our viticultural practices, they consistently produce superior fruit. The style of Chenin Blanc that Voyager Estate aim to produce is that of an easy drinking aromatic white wine. Not aiming to make a complex or wooded style but instead a wine that retains and displays the vibrant ripe fruit flavours of the variety, complemented by a small amount of residual sugar.

Jack's Comments: It is sometimes hit and miss with the Australian Sauvignon Blanc's. Let me same the crew at Yalumba have hit the nail on the head with this excellent wine. It has wonderful ripe fruit characters while still being quite relaxed on the palate. Small packets of sweet fruit also arrive laying the foundation for a pineapple and passionfruit sensation. It finishes off nice and crisp with an exceptional clean finish.

The classy 2007 vintage (4.5 stars) made from first-crop vines, estate-grown at Lowburn shows just how ripe-tasting Central Otago Sauvignon Blanc can be. Hand-picked at 21-24 brix, it was mostly handled in tanks, but 10 per cent of the blend was fermented with indigenous yeasts in old French oak barriques. Description: A French heirloom variety. Produces 2-3kg fruit with delicious sweet, incredibly fragrant flesh. Skin is textured and bumpy. Mildew resistant. Sow Spring - Summer. Sow direct or in seed pots and transplant when strong enough. Sow 12mm deep with 2-3 seeds in a group. Later thin to the strongest 1 or 2. Space rows and groups 50cm apart. To encourage growth of side shoots, pinch out growing tip at 5-6 leaf stage. Keep moist but not wet.

Review: Lovely wine. I was introduced to the New Zealand wines via Giesen and Oyster Bay. I found they were nice, but maybe a little too sweet. I saw this on the shelf at a bottle shop at a much cheaper price and thought I would try it. Well.... Wonderful is all I can say. If I try any other wine now, I almost shiver with ooooooh. The wine is not too heavy and as I mentioned not as sweet as other Marlbourough wines. I haven't found anyone who has a bad thing to say about it.

Colour is mid straw/onion skin. Aroma of sweet strawberry fruit integrated with creamy lees nose. Clean palate with good length, some anise and earthiness touched by very soft sweet chili pepper. Dry oaky tannins on finish with super fine acid. It has wonderful structure with a clean racy finish.

It is a stunning wine that has just won an trophy at "the industry's most prestigious and largest wine show situated in London" as well as Sydney & Adelaide.
