Basketball

Since being founded in Springfield, Massachusetts by Dr. James Naismith in 1891, the sport of basketball has arguably surpassed baseball as the national past-time of the USA. The object of the game is to put the round bouncing ball in the basket more times than your opponent, but there is more to the sport than what you see on the surface.

Rules

The most basic of all the basketball rules is traveling. Traveling is described as making more than two steps without dribbling the basketball. You must dribble the while running, or walking, to not be called for a traveling offense.

Next on the basketball rules scale of importance is discontinuing your dribble. A person dribbling the basketball may not stop their, then continue their driblle. Once a ball handler stops dribbling the basketball, they must either pass or shoot the ball.

Another important rule is a foul. This rule keeps basketball from turning into an all out rugby match. On the professional level, a player is only allowed six personal fouls. While on the amatuer level a player is allowed five fouls before they are disqualified from the contest.
