Where to Begin
So you are brave enough to tackle the task--we applaud you. But where to start?! The following tips will help you organise your brain before anything else.
- Start with a clean slate. Emptying your closet is the first step.
- Sort, toss, and label.
- Keep your most frequently used items front and centre, and set aside anything that hasn't been used for more than a year. These items can be given away or can go to into a garage, basement, or attic for storage.
- Label boxes

for your items.
- This will help you avoid moving everything from one closet into another, while helping your organise your storage.
- Once empty, give the closet a good cleaning
, top to bottom.
- If the closet is dark, install a light fixture

to brighten things up.
- Make a "use-for" list. Think about how you will want to use the closet; make a list and narrow down the content choices.

and storing out-of-season items.

- Put restrictions on the toy sizes that can occupy the space, both large and small. Vow to box up anything else.

- These are notorious for gathering random things. Try to combine like uses as much as possible to impose a logic into your space.
