NFL Football 
The National Football League, also called the NFL, came to fruition in 1920. From 1920 to 1922 the league was called the American Professional Football Association. The league began with just 14 teams in its inaugural season in 1920. The American Professional Football Association took its first steps towards longevity in 1922, when the owners of the now 22 teams had a meeting to establish specific rules and how to make the league last. At that meeting they also decided to change the name of the league from the American Professional Football Association to its current name, the National Football League.
NFL-AFL Merger
In June of 1966, the NFL decided to merge with their rival league the AFL. During this merger it was agreed upon that at the conclusion of the upcoming season, the champion of the AFL would clash with the champion of the NFL at season's end. This game became known as the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl I
Super Bowl I was played on January 29, 1967. It pitted the AFL Champion Kansas City Chiefs
