The Queen's Birthday

All Hail the Queen

Every second Monday in June, Australians (with the exception of those living in Western Australian, who observe the day in either September or October) enjoy a public holiday in honour of the Queen's Birthday.  The date is not actually representative of Queen Elizabeth II 's true birthday (she was born on 21 April)--in fact, this holiday has not been celebrated on the real birthday of the reigning monarch since 1936, with the death of King George V.  Regardless., we are sure that Liz appreciates the sentiment nonetheless!

The Queen's Birthday, apart from being a commemoration of the Commonwealth, also ushers in the beginning of the snow season and related activities, such as skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and so on.  While it might not yet be cold enough for snow this early in June, there are still plenty of creative ways to enjoy yourself.  Consider skating  at an indoor rink and then coming home to a hot and tasty mug of hot chocolate or if you're feeling particularly sedentary, stay indoors and warm yourself by a roaring fire.  If these activities don't seize your interest, don't fret--there will inevitably be football games and public fireworks displays, so there is truly something for everyone.
