This wine is made from fruit grown at Lerida's vineyard at Lake George. Matured in French oak barriques for 12 months, the nose exhibits fruitcake, stewed plums, spice and violet aromas with vanilla oak overtones. The palate is smooth, rich and savoury with fine balanced tannins and a long finish. This wine will reward cellaring for up to 5 -8 years

Subtle. Here was a new flavour note - violets, maybe? Lighter bodied than most in this flight. Clean and very clear. Very well matched with the food. Fruit flavours are strong, bell like and clear. With the mushroom charlotte, the sweet toasty scents of the dish and the wine’s palate perfume combined well to finish very long and agreeably.

Inniskillin's vineyard is called The Brae Burn Estate. "Brae Burn" is of Gaelic origin and translates literally as "Hill Stream," referring to the Niagara Escarpment and the Niagara River. The historic Brae Burn Barn, constructed in the mid-1920s, houses the winery boutique. The main floor consists of the retail wine boutique and tour centre, while the upper level loft, maintained in its original open-beamed structure, features a training centre and demonstration kitchen for guest chefs, and a gallery...

When Jim and Helen Watts bought the 32 hectare Fox Creek Vineyard property in 1984, they were advised against planting vines as the soils were heavy clay. The property had previously been used for growing barley and grazing sheep. Undeterred by the sceptics, they selected and planted fine quality cuttings and nurtured the young vines. Their labours bore fruit - extraordinary good quality fruit - that was lovingly converted into supreme quality wines. Under the skilled guidance of the winemakers,...

Similar in qualities in some ways to the Amelia but quite different in its perfumes and taste. It is truly a wine which reminds one of the best of the "left bank" wines and yet it is distinctly Australian.

Winemaking Notes Mininal intervention is used during fermentation and maturation, allowing terroir or earth character of the individual paddock or plot to emerge in the wine. More importantly the grapes at harvest are flavour ripe, regardless of sugar ripeness. Underscoring the quality of the soils, at vintage the grapes retain high levels of natural acidity. Acid adjustment is rarely ever needed, even when sugar levels reach 14 Baume or higher. All fermentation is carried out by indigenous(native...

Plummy raspberry overtones on the nose and there's something else there that makes me think the wine is not totally clean. By itself the palate looked a touch on the hollow side - Cabernet Franc can be like that - with distinct astringency on the finish. But with food, it really looked very much better indeed and became quite a stylish, balanced, lovely wine. MICHAEL BRAJKOVICH MW (NZ)

A leathery, smoky style with a reasonable level of oak. Some black cherry flavours. Good acidity and good intensity of flavour. It’s an attractive wine. That acidity does carry through the richness, but it’s all in balance. The richness of the wine flavours and the hint of complexity work well with the flavours of this dish.

"Dense purple-red the immensely complex and rich bouquet has a range of spice/heather/herb/plum aromas, with a slightly savoury substrate. The palate has an arpeggio of flavours centred around notes of dark chocolate and prune, but absolutely not limited to those characters. Oak and tannins well managed and well balanced."
