The colour is dark and intense, almost impenetrable, ruby red. On the nose it offers floral hints of red roses, cherries and blackberry jam followed by vanilla notes and spices. The power of this Barbera emerges on the palate: warm and round with a well balance of acidity and tannins and a very persistent finish. A wine of great structure, matured in barriques for 15-18 months and refined in bottle for 6 months.

Guido compares the 2007 Barbera to the outstanding 1990, a vintage that with 20 years was drinking exceptionally well when we tried it last year.

The farm is situated on the top of the ‘Madonna di Como’ hill, 5km from the centre of Alba at a height of 422m above sea level.: The Celts who inhabited the area since the 4th century AD worshipped ‘Como’, the god of feasts; the Romans arrived during the first century AD and the name ‘Como’ came to mean a procession of young dancers in honour of the wine god Bacchus.
