Vineyard trellising at Monaci is a combination of Alberello Pugliese and spurred cordon systems on deep, dry clay soil with some tufaceous limestone. The Alberello, called gobelet in France, resembles a small tree or bush, and with this method the vines leaves protect the grape bunches from excessive sun. The primitive is a medium weight wine that shows raspberry and dark plum fruit that is gently spiced and nuanced by some brambly wild characteristics. There's good mid-palate sweetness and a persistent minerality running the length of the wines. PWS

Bright varietal fruit. Berry, mulberry and ripe strawberry characters with a touch of pepper. Quite spicy. A very juicy palate. Mulberry, strawberry flavours and a touch of jam. Very fruity and bright with some noticeable acidity and a touch of sweetness. A very fresh, bright, easy drinking red. It was okay with the food. The acid stood over a little, but the wine is a very good light bodied red and would be great with pasta dishes.
