The foremost wine region of the province of Castille and Leon, Ribera del Duero is set along the Duero River, sandwiched between Madrid and Rioja. It is a land devoted almost entirely to red grape varieties. Here, the River Duero, which gives the region its name, meanders along to Portugal and ultimately the Atlantic Ocean. The river provides sustenance to the vineyards along its path and tempers the climate of the area creating a benevolent environment for grape growing.
