Kids' Summer Camp Supplies Buying Guide

Time to send the little ones off to summer camp! If you're a first timer, you might want to figure out exactly what you need. Even then, your kids may need a whole new set of supplies away and day camps.

What Do You Send to Camp?

Packing depends heavily on the style, duration of the camp and your son or daughter's needs. Below is a list of things to consider before packing. ! * First and foremost, can your kids handle it? You don't want to break the bank on camp tuition and supplies only to have to pick them up halfway through the first week.  * Is this a rugged camp where extra comforts aren't welcome? Or is it a luxury hotel located in the woods? * Is technology allowed? * Is there a uniform? If so, this will limit the amount of other clothing you'll have to pack. * How long does camp last? Campers will obviously need fewer supplies for 1 week than if they're away for 8. * Is there a camping component that will require more outdoor gear? * Does your child need certain items for stability, like a toys? What about special medications or foods? * Would they make more friends if they brought along a hacky sack? * What's the climate at camp? Will it get very cold at night? Is there lots of rain? * Is the camp going to have dances or banquets where your child will have to dress up? * Are there going to be trips when they'll need to pack a small suitcase? * Can you send care packages? * What kind of medical care is available at the camp? Because of insurance issues, some camps may not be allowed to give your child anything stronger than aspirin, which is bad news for kids with allergies or asthma. * What is the money-spending policy? '''For basics, your child needs:''' ! * Clothing, including rain gear and anything more formal that may be required. * Bedding. This may mean twin set. * Shower supplies, including shower shoes. * Personal hygiene supplies, including lotion. *bug spray. No question about it, these two supplies are the most important of all. * Equipment for camp activities, i.e. sports, arts, scholarly, trips, etc. You probably shouldn't send your kid to tennis camp without their own racket. * Social and personal effects. Keep accessories simple games'>games should be portable and fun for at least two kids at a time. * Fixbandage'>Ace bandage.
