Nappies Buying Guide

Contents[Hide]
For most new parents and parents-to-be, the question has been: disposable  or cloth nappies ? It is really up to you, but of course family members will involve themselves whether or not they are asked their opinion at all. In fact, most likely, complete strangers will give you their opinion regardless of whether or not you have asked for it, or are even on the same side of the street. So, it really depends on what your budget is, what you can handle as far as cleaning goes, and frankly, how much baby poo you are ok with. It's not a pretty side of the decision, but it truly is a side. Same goes for bottle  feeding, what kind of cot  to buy, and countless other options available to you as parents.

Washable vs. Disposable Nappies

Disposable Nappies

  • Less mess.
  • Easy to dispose of.
  • Not environmentally conscious.
  • Specially designed nappies to deal with every step in baby's development.
  • Widely available.
  • Available with natural hypo-allergenic materials.
  • Some change colour when wet to alert parents of needed change.
  • Some environmentally-conscious companies now have disposable inserts that are eco-friendly.

Cloth Nappies

  • Slightly more of a hassle.
  • Some areas offer nappy service for cloth nappies.
  • Cloth nappies now come in different shapes, colours, and patterns.
  • Some come with removable inserts.
  • Allows baby's skin to breathe.
  • Fewer to no harsh chemicals used.
  • Requires more frequent changes.
  • Home laundering is less expensive than  nappy service or disposables.
