Self Sealing Tires

If you have gotten a flat tire in the rain, the dark, the snow, when you're running late, and thrown your hands in the air, asking yourself 'why me?' You should really be asking yourself, 'why haven't I gotten self-sealing tires yet?'

How self sealing tires work

The inside of the tread is lined with another layer of rubber and coated with puncture sealant. Once the nail or other debris punctures the tire, the sealant in the tire coats the hole and seals it. Since the tire does not lose any air pressure, the driver is almost always unaware that there has been a puncture. In any case, if the nail is removed from the tire, it draws the sealant out, so the hole is sealed upon removal. It is important to remember the self-sealing only works on the tread and not the sidewall of the tire.

Notable Self Sealing Tires

According to the Tirerack.com and Consumersearch.com, experts agree that the nail guard performs equally well on all tires. However, some tires perform better than others on the road, outside of a "puncture situation." !
