Clothing Accessories

Clothing is something over which you--the individual--have complete control; when you are wearing it, you should jump at the chance to express yourself. A person's clothing can say a lot about him or her, and it can definitely send messages. So tune in to your body language--accessories are the adjectives of fashion.

How to Jazz Up a Wardrobe

The Basics (General Advice for Men and Women)

  • First take a look at your outfit. Do you even need accessories? If an outfit is already busy or if it has a distinct cut, you may want to save the accessories for another day--you don't want to take away from the clothing, you want to enhance it.
  • If your main priority is getting some accessories on your body, opt for a monochrome outfit and the attention will go straight to the add-ons--it is always best to wear them with solid colours anyway.
  • Once you have your base figured out (i.e. the clothing), you need to consider which accessories you want and/or need.
  • Find some pieces of complementary jewellery. This does not mean they have to match, just that the jewellery needs to complement you, the outfit, and the other accessories on your body.
  • Belts, jackets, and shoes are a great way to make an outfit more interesting. Flat shoes boots or trendy athletic shoes  are a comfortable way to add style to any outfit. A hooded jumper  looks great over layered shirts or under a jacket and a blazer  can make things look a bit more polished.

Accessory Tips

  • Everyone has a different style, so you should wear things that YOU like to wear--no use in pleasing others, especially when there is no way to please 'em all. If you are confident in what you are wearing, you'll look good, no matter what.
  • Check out second-hand stores for great money saving accessories. The things you find in these stores are both interesting and original, so they will help you make a statement.
  • If you want to wear something wild, like a big necklace  or a brightly striped shirt, wear plain clothes so the accessory stands out.
  • Don't be afraid to try something new! If you want to be be more exciting, you have to be willing to take style risks.
