Arts and Crafts

Most people think of kids when they hear the term "arts and crafts," but there are plenty of crafts that are suitable for all ages--including some that are specifically for adults. Whether you are looking to add some items to your art box, or get start-up materials for your next crafting project, the arts and crafts guides are a good place to start.

Choose a Craft

Beading

When bead working, beads can be attached directly onto a fabric or used to create three-dimensional pieces. Bead work techniques include loom  and off-loom weaving, stringing, bead embroidery, bead knitting and crocheting.

Candle Making & Soap Making

Create custom soaps and candles by choosing the moulds, scents, and decorating techniques that will make your work personal and unique.

Ceramics

 Making your own ceramics can be a fun way to create pottery  and/or ceramic sculptures. You can even paint the finished product to add a snappy touch. 

Sculpting 

Sculpting can be done with a variety of materials but clay, metal, wood, and stone are the commonly used mediums. Specialised sculpting tools are available, but not recommended for children's use.

Painting

All art provides a great outlet to creativity, and painting definitely offers a wide variety of styles, mediums, and crafts from which to choose. 


Drawing

Drawing is one of the most basic and popular art forms out there. Common instruments include graphite pencils pen and ink coloured pencils and charcoal

Florals & Wreaths

Glass Art

Glass art includes stained glass, working glass in a torch flame (lamp working), glass bead making, glass casting, glass fusing, and, most notably, glass blowing. Not suitable for children.

Kids' Crafts

Art is more fun for kids when it is specifically geared towards their age range and interests. Get your kid more involved in art by choosing some crafts just for them.

Knitting & Crocheting

Yarn  can be used to create wearable pieces, artwork, and decorations. In order to get started in one of these crafts you may want to get a beginner's knit kit  or a "How to Crochet" manual


Metalworking 

Metalworking can refer to many practices but when it comes to arts and crafts, it refers mostly to sculpture and jewellery making.  

Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking is a way of combining photographs, printed media, and memorabilia to preserve memories. These items are often arranged in a book or album called a scrapbook

Jewellery Making & Macramé

Jewellery making can range from bead work, to metalwork, string weaving, and moulding--anything that results in wearable or displayable jewellery.

Sewing & Quilting

Sewing is a way of attaching fabrics together with needle  and thread to create a larger, more decorative piece. Quilting uses the same technique (specifically with the intention of creating quilts).

Wood Carving 

Woodworking is the process of building, making, or carving something using wood Woodwork includes structures, sculptures, jewellery and furniture. It is not a suitable craft for children.
