Dog Bedding Buying Guide

Contents[Hide]

When you own a dog you need to ensure that he has all possible comforts and that his needs are met.  Having a good place to sleep is an absolute must, especially if your dog cherishes his resting time a lot.  Luckily dog beds  come in several shapes, sizes, and materials, but you will have to do a little bit of research before making that purchase.  We are here to help!

Observe the Habits

First things first.  You will need to know your dogs sleeping habits.  Not all humans sleep the same way; that's why we have so many bedding options, and the same goes for dogs.  Some curl up, some stretch out.  This will give you a rough idea of the shape you should opt for; there are round rectangular and square  beds designed to fit a dog's needs.

The dog's sleeping habits will also reveal the ideal type of bed. If your dog likes sleeping on your bed or couch, then it means that he prefers soft and warm places.  Most dogs prefer soft cushioned spots, but there are some dogs that like sleeping on the floor or carpet.

Once your understand what it is that your dog likes, you can then move forward with your shopping.

Know the Size

Before buying, you will also want to measure  your dog.  If you go for routine check-ups, most vets will be happy to take these measurements for you.  If your dog is not one to sit still for very long, then take a good guess.  Knowing the size of your dog will help you find a bed that is sure to meet his comforts.  One too large can be overwhelming and one too small will just be uncomfortable.  You want to find that bed that's just right

Evaluate Your Choices

A soft and spacious bed is always a great idea--most dogs would be absolutely enthusiastic about a lounging bed!  Most dogs prefer higher sides as well; they make them feel more protected and safe.

You will also want to think about how the bed will be used.  Will it be taken along on trips?  Will it need to go outside?  Some dog beds are quite easy to move and fold for portability, though if your dog is not travelling, you can buy a sturdier bed.  If you will move the bed outside (such as in the garden or on a balcony), you will need to make sure that it is waterproof and warm enough to withstand the elements.
