The Guide to Hair Fixes

Unless you are famous, there is absolutely no way that your hair can be perfect every day.  We all have those mornings of humidity and those days of frizz, so don't think that you are alone in your challenge.  Hair can be complicated, which is why we are here to help.  No matter what your hair disaster may be, we are sure to have the solution for you!

Understanding Hair Types

Many people don't have a clue as to how to describe their hair, and truth be told, it can be confusing.  Knowing what type of hair you have is so important; there are different products  made specifically for your hair type to keep your locks looking their healthiest.  Once you understand how your hair works, the easier it will be to style and maintain.

  • Fine/Oily : This is usually accompanied with oily skin  due to an over-secretion of oil, hence the scalp and hair getting too oily. Oily hair is easily recognisable. It may still look dirty after shampooing, and seems to always fall flat.
    • This type of hair may need to be washed quite frequently and can be rinsed out with lemon
    • Use oils  and shampoos  rich in neem  and henna  to balance out the hair.
    • A head massage with an herbal oil  also helps to maintain the pH level of the scalp.
  • Normal : This is the most ideal hair. It is shiny, well-balanced, and does not dry out easily.
    • To maintain this healthy balance, proper care  is essential.
    • Eat a well-balanced diet  to keep hormones in check. Too much fat can lead to the production of more oil, making the scalp oily and the hair limp.
  • Coarse/Dry : Dry hair can be blamed on inactive oil glands, too much sun exposure, or over-processing. Surely, this type of hair needs plenty of nourishment.
    • Massage well with a warm herbal oil  at least twice a week.
    • Use a mild shampoo Harsh ones can strip the hair of its outer protein layer, making the scalp even dryer.
    • Follow a diet rich in zinc as this is know to help.
    • Try to avoid electrics such as blow dryers flat irons and curlers  If you can let your hair dry naturally, that's your best bet.

Five Second Fixes

Ever have one of those days where you really don't feel like doing anything to your hair?  Ponytails  live for those days!  Even though they may be the quickest, simplest solution, there are many other stylish ways to give your boring hair a bit of a lift, without all of the effort!

  • Headbands : Introduce a new look with a headband or hair scarf Once you brush your hair straight or work through your curls, gently slide on a headband for a different look. They are very convenient and easy to use, so every woman can benefit from owning some, no matter what type of hair she may have.
  • Hair Pins : When you don't have the time to dry your hair, these work wonders. A decorative pin that is about three inches in length will do the trick. Brush your wet hair out and pull it towards the nape of your neck, as if you were creating a low ponytail; twist your hair around and create a funky or classic styled bun. Push the hair pins through it to keep it place and out the door you go.
